Eric Miner is the Chief of Staff for Performance Protocol. (www.performance-protocol.com) But long before that, he was a kid growing up in Orange County, California, with dreams of being a police officer. He made the dream become a reality in an action packed career with the Phoenix, AZ, Police Department.
Eric’s career spanned over twenty years with assignments ranging from Patrol to SWAT, which was a full-time assignment in one of the nation's largest police departments, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. In this episode Eric shares his experiences from a career where he spent most of his time working with and supervising patrol officers.
Most police officers will never fire their duty weapons. Despite what we see on television, it is rare when an officer is involved in a police action shooting. In the rare instances when it does happen, you need someone who is well prepared, not just for the action itself, but for the emotional roller coaster that ensues.
Eric is the exception, in more ways than one. He was involved in not just one officer involved shooting, but three. This is an episode that highlights the necessity of properly preparing officers for the challenges they will face in a policing career. His is a story of resilience.
