Get ready for some hard truths. There is hope for the future of law enforcement, but it is going to take some work. And since we are going to roll up our sleeves and get to work, there is no better place to start than in a law enforcement family. Matt Dolan is the son of a Police Chief, and while his calling was not a badge, it was a law degree and a drive to protect those who wear the badge.
In this episode we cover a lot of ground, but without giving away the end, I want to touch on some teasers for this episode, the first being the obvious ramifications of a need for valuing, training, and caring for current personnel.
Have you ever considered the concept of improving the “the value per officer equation?” If you have less officers doing more work, it is logical to conclude that the pressure is increased on the existing workforce. This leads to potential reasons for leaving but also increases stress and burnout. From a technology perspective, leveraging automation to reduce demand on people is one potential solution. If this is not a clear goal for your agency, we discuss some things that may make you reconsider.
I also am intrigued by the concept of providing “pre-employment” training, particularly involving physical fitness. Maybe another offering to agencies could be to “coach” potential candidates. They have good people in the pipeline that need a boost to get over the finish line, maybe they look to companies like Performance Protocol? Does this concept resonate with you?
The Dolan Consulting Group, led by Matt, is known for their cutting edge training. Seeing the storm and preparing for it is different from “Weathering” it. Their recent publication, titled “Weather the Storm in Policing” is a must read for all police executives and community leaders.
So, put on your weather gear and settle in for a great conversation with a leading mind in law enforcement training!
