First there, that others may live! This is the motto of the United States Air Force Special Operations. Maybe the “quietest” of the Quiet Professionals, Air Force Pararescue and Combat Controllers are the ultimate force multipliers. But how does one go from being an Electrical Engineer at one of the most prestigious engineering universities in the world to Combat Control? And, as if that was not enough, then wind up with the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, the most elite law enforcement special operations unit in the world? These are my words, not his, but John Dunn did just that. In this episode retired Supervisory Special Agent, John Dunn, talks about this unique path that led him from Purdue University, to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, to FBI SWAT and the Hostage Rescue Team.
There are many roads to success, and failure is always part of the process, but when you have a desire to do something great and the dedication to do the work necessary for success, anything is possible. Sometimes, the hardest things are the simplest things. Never Quit.
John Dunn talks about being in the bottom of the pool, where he was certain the cadre were purposely trying to drown him, and deciding right there and then that they would have to succeed in drowning him to make him quit.
Now, imagine the power of this mindset applied to all aspects of your personal and professional life. This is why John Dunn, and those that tap into the power to intrinsic motivation, make crushing goals look easy.
This episode is filled with great information about how to set yourself up for winning, and how to not let the fear of failure hold you back. Along the way you will hear some of the cases his hard work and preparation led him to, including Operation Guardshack, the Al-Zarqawi site, and the MLK Parade Bomber arrest.
If I had to sum this episode up in one sentence; Hard work pays off! Tune-in and listen up! For those of you attending the TaserCon conference, you will get a chance to train firsthand with John.
